It was 1977 and Anita Bryant, the queen of orange juice, decided that protecting kids meant rolling back LGBTQ+ rights. Ultimately, overturning an ordinance that had prohibited discrimination based on sexual orientation.
Her argument?
homosexuals cannot reproduce, so they must recruit. And to freshen their ranks, they must recruit the youth of America.

Even though she had the Christian conservatives and the government on her side, Florida queers didn’t stay silent . They boycotted orange juice and started calling screwdrivers 'Anita Bryants.' She even got pied on live TV.
Sadly, she succeeded and after the 'Save Our Children' campaign, Florida banned same-sex marriage and adoption.
